I'm sure we'll see plenty of articles about whether Ron should stay or go, and who his replacement could be.
Here's a funky one from good 'ol Al Strachan: FOX Sports on MSN - NHL - Here's a couple of excerpts, and I have no idea how Strachan would know this stuff: One of Wilson's biggest failings was his relationship with team captain Patrick Marleau. At one point, the two went more than six months without talking to each other. Six months? As in October to April? You're kidding. Between periods in one game, he (Ron Wilson) wrote the names of Matt Carle, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Milan Michalek on the board in the dressing room. Jabbing at the board for emphasis, he said, "These are the guys that are letting us down." That last one was probably refers to the Calgary series. Those are products of the Fox Sports school of internet journalism: the more outrageous, the better. |

Just about as bad as the other branch of reporting from Fox that insists on reporting about Obama's dress or Paris Hilton, instead of the fact that we're trying to build a strip mall and condos in the "Green Zone" in Iraq, or how ridiculous it is that the candidates are debating about whether or not we, as Americans, need a $0.65/day discount on gas.

![]() I find it hard to believe that Ron could be as dumb as described... If so, the players would have gone to Doug W and Ron W would already be gone. I still say Ron W goes and Kevin Constatine to replace him.

Drew was on XM a little while ago, and they asked him about RW. He said he didn't want to speculate, but he had never spoken to Doug this year where he questioned RWs coaching or relationships with players. I think this Fox reporter is full of poop. He also stated that the way the team was coached over the last 2 series really showed the resolve and determination that players had to win and that it could be partly attributed to the coaches.

What I didnt understand about the Sharks is why did they start getting so passive in their own end? JtF brought up a good point where the Sharks started going East - West instead of North - South (or however you want to call it) in their own zone. During the year they really did not focus upon this and I think that is really what cost them. You figure that in the Playoffs there would be more of the forecheck etc. Also, the Sharks just overpass way too much especially on the Power Play. Whatever happened to the boring old slam the rebound home in front? Did not having Bernier in front hurt as well? And Im not sure what to do about Campbell. I love the guy, but he played like a rookie in alot of the playoff games. I agree he did show up in Game 5, but where was he?

i think a full year with Campbell will make for a different playoff appearance next year. He needs to be resigned.
It seems to me like WIlson just coached the rteam in the playoffs TOO defensively. He has always focused on being a strong defensive club, which is needed, but it seems like the team was always so worried about making a mistake that it slowed us down. The only game where it seemed like we were not worried aboutmistakes and literraly went all out, was game 7 against Calgary. It is still so very frustrating that that team could bnot show up for the Dallas series. I hate the fact, that the 4 OT game has given Wilson a second chance. The team has heart. Blah blah blah. EVERY team will show heart in a game like that. We should have been playing in regulation however, the way we played against Calgary. We should have played the entire game the way we played the thrid period.....IN GAME 5 AND 6. EVERYTHING wrong with this team comes from the coaching IMHO. The right coach, will instill the proper things with the talent on this roster to win it all. Unfortunately, I have absolutely, no idea who that coach is, I don't think it is Ricci, but he has to be out there cause R Wilson has proven he is not it. I still like the idea of Granato with Ricci as an assistant. Granato has some coaching experience from Colorado, so I think he may have what we need.....fresh enough from the game to know what it takes, some experience, but not stuck in the old ways of Hockey. And the things that Ricci could bring to a locker room would be HUGE in a playoff run. Just my opnion, as uneducated as it may be. =-)

Just a somewhat funny aside, Ron Wilson was asked in an interview by a local sports reporter about his job status. His reply was that his coaching record was, "Second to none in the history of the game." Wow, at least he's humble, LOL. Second to none, uh, check the numbers again Ron. How many Cups on that resume? And you don't hold the record for most wins so how do you get to being the best of all time?!? Wow, is this guy an ego maniac or just a frustrated pompous red ass? You be the judge.
PS. I agree that new blood is a good thing on the bench and not so much because Wilson can't coach (obviously in many situations he's effective), but the club needs a new voice from behind the bench to change the status quo. It's always easier to fire the coach than try to fix any perceived issues with player personnel. A few players will come/go as well but quite probably Ron Wilson is out, IMO. |

Yeah, that would depend how he said it. Wilson is always trying to get a laugh, though that's an odd topic for a joke.
I think RW has taken this team as far as he can. The comments earlier in the season that a team can't win the cup until it's the right time kinda rubbed me the wrong way. That's a pretty fatalistic attitude for a coach or anyone associated with sports. After seeing our performance in the playoffs, I can see how that philosophy could have had something to do with it.
