Default Magowan stepping down as managing partner

So, I don't have time tonight to post my personal feelings on the matter, but how does everyone else feel about the possibility of this happening during this season!?!?!

Good, bad, indifferent? Will it make a difference to how this team operates!? Will he take Zito with him!?!?!

Proceed to discuss, and I will add my thoughts tomorrow.

I don't think that during a season is ever a good time to put your team up for sale. Its like taking your players and saying "you all suck, we aren't going any ware and I'm sick of seeing you loose all the time." It just like a slap in the face. I don't see any good coming out of this at this time. If he waited until the off season then I would be . But to do it right now as your team is struggling is just plain wrong. But it is been those kind of judgement calls that got us were we are now anyway

I don't think that him selling will have any impact on the team or their feelings. Even though they all say otherwise, they know what the program is this season. They are all on auditions for either a permanent starting spot on this roster for next year, or for trade bait throughout the year to get to a contender.

I hope, that the new owner that comes in, takes his wallet and lets go of some of these bad contracts in trades without worrying about getting too much back. We need to just let go of the bad this year so we can really start out fresh next year.

I worry that the new owner will be more of a businessman, and we become the Florida Marlins or something. That is my worry. Say what you will about Magowan, he wanted a winner. Bad contracts and decisions got us where we are, not his lack of spending.

Technically the team isn't being sold. Magowan is only selling his share of the team. There is a group of other rich folks who make up the rest of the ownership group.

The impact is that we won't be seeing Magowan meddling in baseball personnel decisions anymore. It was ultimately his decision to bring Bonds back for his last year and it was his decision to shell out obscene dollars to Zito. If he does sell his share of the team, hopefully it means the new majority owner will leave the baseball decisions to Sabean and his personnel people.

Tthe team isn't being sold AT ALL. And Magowan is keeping an ownership stake - he is simply stepping down as managing partner.

While there have been plenty (PLENTY) of "pratfalls" during his tenure and a horde of gruesome decisions from a player personnel standpoint, this ownership group accomplished two amazing things: assuring that the S.F. Smalls remained in San Francisco AND enabling construction of the downtown ballpark. For those two reasons, mitigating all others, the ownership group during Magowan's tenure has been a wild success!

And I'll just leave it at that......
