Scouting Report: Giants: Misch was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Sunday, when right-hander Kevin Correia was placed on the disabled list with a strained left side. Misch pitched that day after Barry Zito allowed eight runs in three innings and saved San Francisco's bullpen by gobbling up the final six innings. Misch surrendered only two runs, both on homers by Cincinnati's Brandon Phillips. Since 2006, Misch is 0-4 with a 3.99 ERA in 20 Major League appearances, including four starts. He's not overpowering, but he's capable of maintaining effectiveness by hitting the corners with his fastball and changing speeds.Phillies: The 23-year-old Kendrick has never faced the Giants in 25 career starts. The only player on the Giants roster he has faced is infielder Jose Castillo, who is 2-for-3 with a double against him. The Phillies are 16-9 when he starts.
Scouting Report: Giants: Cain ended a winless stretch of 10 starts on Monday by pitching 5 1/3 scoreless innings against Colorado. Although Cain still was throwing in the mid-90s in the sixth inning, he had trouble harnessing his stuff, throwing 108 pitches and walking five. The Giants even scored four runs for him, a veritable bonanza. San Francisco has scored no more than one run with Cain on the mound in 17 of his 38 starts dating back to the beginning of the 2007 season. Cain has struggled against the Phillies, posting an 0-2 record with a 9.69 ERA in three starts.Phillies: Myers struggled in his last outing at Pittsburgh, giving up eight hits and four earned runs in five innings. He seemed to lose some zip off his fastball and had trouble locating his curve ball. Myers has also been hurt by the long ball, allowing 10 homers in 37 innings. Myers has surrendered at least four earned runs or more in three of his past five starts.
Scouting Report: Giants: Lincecum is coming off his first loss of the season, a respectable 3-2 setback to Colorado on Tuesday, when he worked seven innings and allowed all of the Rockies' runs. Lincecum struck out four in seven innings after entering the game with 36 in 29 1/3 innings. He missed a chance to become only the second San Francisco Giant to open the season's first month with a 5-0 record; John Burkett did so in 1993. Lincecum, who made his Major League debut against Philadelphia last May 6, has no record in two appearances against the Phillies.Phillies: Hamels pitched 7 1/3 strong innings in his last start against the Padres while picking up his third win of the season. He allowed only five hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts. Once again, the left-hander was consistently in the strike zone and used his changeup effectively to keep the Padres off balance.
