Injury Superpest Sean Avery out of hospital

Washington Post
Quote:
NEW YORK -- Sean Avery's season is already over. The rest of the New York Rangers are hoping to avoid the same fate with a comeback of epic proportions.

The agitating Avery spent Wednesday in the hospital after a lacerated spleen suffered in Tuesday night's loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins put an early end to his season and created worry that his life was in danger.

News of Avery's hospitalization caused quite a stir Wednesday, following a report that the 28-year-old forward had suffered a cardiac arrest and was not breathing when he arrived at the hospital.

"The first time I saw the news, it was really concerning," said Detroit Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom, Avery's former teammate. "I heard cardiac arrest. We got (to practice) and heard ruptured spleen. It's still a severe injury, but sounded a lot worse."
Holy crap! Cardiac arrest??

And he was a big reason for the Rangers push into the playoffs this season. Even got the attention of the league with a new clause in the rules named after him.

Here's to a speedy recovery.

NEW YORK (AP) -Rangers forward Sean Avery remained in an intensive care unit Thursday, two days after his spleen was lacerated during a playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The internal bleeding, that has kept Avery in intensive care, stopped Thursday. If that improvement continues, he could be moved out of the unit Friday morning, Rangers spokesman John Rosasco said.

"His levels are good," Rosasco said after the Rangers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 on Thursday night to extend their season at least one more game.

Avery spent Wednesday in the hospital after the injury ended his season. He is expected to be hospitalized at least a few days. Avery did not need surgery, and Rosasco said he is expected to make a full recovery.

"He was never in a life-threatening situation," Rosasco said.

New York Rangers forward Sean Avery was released from the hospital yesterday morning, five days after he suffered a season-ending spleen injury in a playoff game. Avery was in intensive care at St. Vincent's Medical Center from the time he was admitted Tuesday night, shortly after New York's Game 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, until Saturday because of a lacerated spleen, Rangers spokesman John Rosasco said.

Avery, 28, is believed to have been injured during the early portion of Game 3.
