Default Which current NFL player would you choose to build a franchise around?

If you could choose any current NFL player to start a franchise, who would you choose? Please take into consideration age, injury history, and how you plan to run your franchise before making a selection. Please also tell why you chose who you chose.

I would take Adrian Peterson from the Minnesota Vikings. I think a quarterback is the right way to go but both Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are in their 30s, which scares me. Tony Romo would be an excellent selection also, but as a Dallas fan I am not going to choose him.

Peterson's past injury history at Oklahoma does scare me quite a bit, as well as his injuries on the Vikings last season. Even with all that I believe just his talent level alone is enough for me to trust building my franchise around.

Some of you might want to choose a lineman, and build inside out. Choose however you'd like to. There are no right or wrong answers.

I'd probably pick DeAngelo Williams. He's a youngster and he has very good blocking ability and has enough mass that he can sometimes pummel the littler defenders out of his way and last year he had a promising 717 yards!

Oh right and he's from my favourite football team, holla!

Willie Parker, hands down, a heck of a runner. I would also put in Ben Roethlisberger for Quarterback if I had to pick QB.

I would probably choose Ben Roethlisberger. He's still young, he's a good sized quarterback who can move when he needs to. He's not perfect, but I think that if you build a decent team around him, there's little risk that he would cause a bad season.

Wow, coming from you, Chris, I didn't expect this. I would of thought you would consider a Patriots player like Tom Brady or Bruschi.

LOL

No catch ... it's just that there isn't a young guy on the Patriots who I'd pick over Big Ben to build a team around. I'm not a complete homer, ya know.

Joe Thomas, the Browns left tackle. He's young, he's good, and he's here to stay. You build a team starting with the offensive and defensive lines, and Thomas seems like the most obvious choice.

I took a few players under consideration (Carson Palmer, Ben Roethlisberger, Adrian Peterson, LaDainian Tomlinson, Joe Thomas, Mario Williams, Troy Polamalu) but I think I would go with Ben Roethlisberger to start a franchise.

It is hard to choose just one player to build an NFL franchise around because there are so many positions, but I figured starting with a quarterback is a step in the right direction.
