After Record Year, Kent State Coach Resigns

POSTED: 3:59 pm EDT March 29, 2008

KENT, Ohio -- Kent State coach Jim Christian, who led the Golden Flashes to a school record 25 regular season wins and an NCAA tournament bid this season, has resigned to become the head coach at Texas Christian University, Kent State athletic director Laing Kennedy said in a statement.

Christian was named the Mid-American Conference coach of the year for 2007-2008, the second time he's won the honor, and also guided the Golden Flashes to their first regular season ranking in the AP Top 25.

This comes as a complete shock to the University and the Fans of Kent State. I never seen this coming. . I wish Jim Christian well at Texas Christian University. I guess Kent State is going on a national search for our next candidate. Sure wish we could bring a big marquee name into our arena.

This move seems odd, as that doesn't really look like a "step-up" for him. I'm sure it was money related.

Pretty much right on the point, M3th0ds. Gary Waters left for Rutgers cause of the $$$$. Stan Heath left Kent State for Arkansas cause of the $$$$. Now Jim Christian. I hope we get a good name to coach us. I would like to see Kent State keep the tradition going of being in the postseason and being a powerhouse in the MAC.

I honestly see Rutgers and Arkansas especially as "steps-up" for a coach though. I don't see TCU as being a step up from Kent St.
