Big East Champion: West Virginia
  • Actually a hard team to pick over Cincinnati who was the only team in 2007 who never looked flat. West Virginia has their toughest games at home including Auburn, South Florida, and Cincinnati...and those are their toughest games in 2008.
  • Cincinnati with a win over West Virginia on the road will win the conference. As the Big East falters for many teams, I believe the Bearcats will hold strong. A Week 2 upset over Oklahoma would just mean that 2008 would pick up where the 2007 season left off.
  • UConn should begin the season 5-1, but the only conference win would be against Syracuse, not all that impressive. They won't be a perrennial contender.
  • South Florida will have to play very tough to beat both West Virginia and Cincinnati on the road if they want a chance in the Big East. A win over an overrated Kansas would help the conference a lot much like their win over Auburn did in 2007.
  • Rutgers has an extremely easy four out of conference games right now, and they should win all of them. They have one spot open where they are trying to schedule a bigger team, and seem to have their eye on the ACC still. Ignoring that fifth game, Rutgers will have problems in the Big East without Ray Rice and three of the offensive line which helped him so much.
  • Louisville fell off in 2007, imagine how they will fall without Brohm and their receivers.
  • Pittsburgh's 2008 depends on just how well their sophmores at quarterback and runningback show up.
  • Syracuse, not a chance.
Most Interesting Out-of-Conference Matchup: Cincinnati vs. Oklahoma
  • Oklahoma will be the heavy favorites at this game in Norman, but then again Auburn was last year in Alabama when a quiet South Florida team showed up to play.

Well it seems my previous rant about the terrible job by Rutgers scheduling may have been a bit premature. Despite that they were the only team to not have schedule a full season, now that Kansas State has bought their game out against Fresno State, Fresno State is in serious talks with Rutgers about playing in New Jersey in 2008. I would be thrilled with this all things considering, and it would be a good game.

It's official if there is anyone out there who cares in the least. Rutgers will play host to Fresno State on the Monday of Labor Day, Sept. 1. It will be an afternoon game, nationally televised by ESPN.

It has been reported that Rutgers will return a trip to Fresno State...in 2012.
