Default BREAKING NEWS: D'Antoni accepts Knicks coaching job

Quote:
An NBA source close to the situation told The Boston Globe today that Phoenix Suns coach Mike D'Antoni has accepted the New York Knicks head coaching job.

Despite having two years and $8.5 million on his deal with the Suns, D'Antoni was given permission by the team to interview for openings with the Knicks and the Chicago Bulls.

D'Antoni has a career record of 267-172 after coaching Phoenix for four seasons and Denver in one.

Should be intresting to see what trades happen now, since a lot of the current NY players are not "run them into the ground" players. The Bulls would have been a better fit for him IMO, should be a fun summer to watch this unfold further now.

Yeah the only problem is that Randolph and Curry aren't exactly movable with their gigantic contracts and uselessness. The deadweight on that roster is insane. The only thing they can hope to do is draft well and not extend any contracts and wait three or four years until they finally get rid of those horrible deals.

deffinitely not a good fit.in order to run his type of run-and-gun offense you need a pass first type PG and NY doesn't have 1 of those.hell to be honest they have the exact opposite in starbury and crawford

Their PG situation is questionable if they want to get out and run. If they get lucky they might get Rose in the draft. But if they don't, they might want to make a run for TJ Ford if he's on the block. Or look at cheaper alternatives like Luke Ridnour or Ramon Sessions.

As for Curry...they need to find someone to take him. Can't run if you can't board and Curry is horrible on the glass.

I want to know if the Knicks will finally follow a smart plan, rebuilding as they should taking their time and having patience, or will they make some more dumb deals hoping for a quick fix as they've done for the past 8 years? With Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni, I guess they will look at that situation and start a plan to rebuild that franchise even if it takes a few years.

I agree that Mike D'Antoni was a much better fit in Chicago. They have a good pass first pg in Hinrich and several athletes who fit perfectly in a run and gun system. The Knicks don't have any players who can play in that system which means they have to clean house, but as GHOSTOFVDC said, those players are impossible to move. I guess the Knicks just offered more money and gave him an assurance that he would have plenty of time to make things work.

curry's not going anywhere unless they eat contract.he's just owed way too much money for the little he gives to the team.i do however think david lee fits d'antoni's system pretty good

One point that was raised though is that having D'Antoni is that it might convince Lebron to go to the Knicks instead of the Brooklyn Nets. Sure, Jay-Z is his boy, but the chance to revive the NBA's marque franchise while playing for an offensive coach who could consistently get him the ball in space. The Knicks need to be committed to losing as odd as that sounds for a couple years as in don't sign any new big contracts and try to draft and develop. You want the team to start peaking in two or three years, not do their standard practice of making dumb deals to try to win now. Knick fans aren't dumb, if they realize that the gameplan in place is to get Lebron and develop pieces to put around him, they'll be okay with losing. It's the complete lack of a gameplan they've had in the past that's angered them.

reportedly, lebron would love to go to the knicks.apparently that's the one spot in the NBA where he'd want to go if the cavs don't get him any help.there was multiple reports about that when he was unhappy with his supporting cast,or lack thereof.
