too many if's in there.what if they draft rose and he's a bust?what if they don't get either of the top 2(beasley or rose)?i'm not even going to mention the fact that they still would have randolph, curry, starbury, quentin richardson, jamal crawford, etc. who are all overpaid and horrible locker room guys and quite frankly only show up for offense

Most of those guys are off the cap by that point. As of now the Knicks would have open cap space when Lebron could opt out of his contract in 2010.

Knicks salaries

It's going to be a whole new roster in a few years. Will it be a good roster? Only time will tell...

If the Knicks are going to make a run at LBJ they need to move Randolph and Crawford for ending Ks, you players on smaller contracts, and picks. Or if they get really lucky, they can move Curry.

As is, even if they just let all their bad contracts expire, they won't have cap space in 2010 for LBJ since they probably will re-sign Lee and Robinson.

Heh, if only they could get blackmail on the guys with player options to get them to decide not to take the options. Maybe that's Isaiah's new job within the organization.

Quite unlikely, you are talking about to convince EC to give up 11 mil since he will not get any other offer even close to it.
No matter what, no team in NBA will likely to have the cap room to sign a big money FA anyway. The most common thing to do is sign-and-trade, it can also protect each players' possible maximum salaries. Cavs will not just let LeBron go that easily, which means that they will trade in Zach to match LeBron's possible new contract, a few picks (which, not a lot left anyway), and may get David Lee or some others in return. Like a few years ago when Magic gave up Ben Wallace and bunch of others for Grant Hill but Magic with 2 superstars (T-Mac and Hill) that they cannot even pass the first round. Meanwhile, Pistons ended up with a championship with the package from Magic.
By LeBron to have any type of successes that will still be 5~7 years away from now if assumed that LeBron is indeed going to NY. If Cavs can win something for the next 2 years then it will be even more pricier than he is right now. By meaning, Knicks needs to give up a lot in order to get LeBron. They need a really good GM to be able to pull it off.
LeBron will still be king in NY, but what kind of king will he become? He can end up like the king of Louis XVI.....
