In case of Phoenix, I doubt D'Antoni was really happy to change his whole phylosophy and system for a 36 year old hasbeen with little mobility.
I'd have to agree with this sentiment. Avery Johnson's firing screams scapegoat; it's not his fault that Dallas management ludicrously overpaid for a veteran point guard whose reputation, at this point in his career, exceeds his skill. And D'Antoni, if he's fired, is in the same boat.

D'Antoni's gone, but they'll take a different approach. He has two years left on his deal and ideally they'll want him to find another coaching job so they can agree to release him from his contract rather than firing him and having to pay him. It'd be a good time for him to leave too as that roster doesn't have a lot of a future considering how they've sold off first round picks. He gets blamed unfairly for not having developed a bench when ownership refuses to pay for one. Oh man, how did Mike not turn DJ Strawberry into a star?? You know how well those very end of the second round draft picks usually turn out. Not developing him is clearly on the coach. Bailing now and going to a young athletic team with an up and coming point guard like Toronto (here's a hint, that PG is not TJ Ford) would be the best possible thing for his career. All Phoenix really has going forward is Amare as every other good piece on that team is getting near the end (Nash, Shaq, Hill, Bell) or just doesn't care now that he's gotten paid (Diaw). That team is going to miss the playoffs in one of the next two years and when they do, Mike D will look like an even better coach for it when in truth he'll have just gotten out at the right time.

Avery's firing was a bit unjustified because Cuban was trying to hide his own wrongdoing by firing him.
On the other hand, the sign of firing was quite obvious right after last year's first round oust.

avery built his backcourt on defense and cuban took his key guy away from him and that made an average defense a horrible defense.they'll never win a championship with dirk at PF.he's 1 of the softest defensive players in the game today
