lightbulb 2008's Rookie of the Year SO FAR

Hey, Everybody

I want your opinion, i think this could be a big topic, SO many new rookies in the year 2008 so far and more rookies still to come. I mean you have MY FAVORITE REDS 1st BASEMEN JOEY VOTTO, then Evan Longoria from Tampa Bay, Jacoby Ellsbury from Boston, Just to name a few. Who do you think will be the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, in my opinion at this time of the stage and i know its early but I think Joey Votto will be the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR!!! and if the reds could bring up JAY BRUCE this year, I may just changed my mind to HIM! that will be nice to Have TWO ROOKIE OF THE YEARS TIED!!!!.

thats my opinion, WHATS YOUR's?

Even over Soto? I think I would go with Soto right now if I had to choose.

Soto, Fukudome, and then Votto in my opinion right now. Soto is playing lights out right now, but Fukudome is making a strong case in the votings. It is still a ways to go in the season.

soto leads all catcher in every important offensive category so he's at the top for right now.everybody seems to be forgetting about the young pitching stud from cinci, johny cueto.he was doing damn good until his last start where he was roughed up.at the end of the year i'm gonna say max scherzer.he's likely going to be used in the bullpen once davis comes back and is likely to pick up where the last year's flamethrowing rookie, joba chamberlain, left off

I notice everybody is just Ignoring Chamberlin and the fact that with the exception of one game, he hasn't even given up a run.

chamberlain's there but i wouldnt put him at the top as of right now.he could be at or near the top at the end of the year but as of now,no.i think if he's converted to starter he'll run away with the award

AL: 1. Longoria 2. Ellsbury 3. Chamberlain 4. David Price (depending on when he gets called up)

NL: 1. Bruce (when he gets called up) 2. Soto 3. Clayton Kershaw (nasty ass stuff, just like Price)

When was the last time a middle reliever won the Rookie of the Year award? I believe the voters are going to hold his role on the team against him. He's not counted on enough as a middle reliever. He's not going out there and getting the final outs as a closer and he's not going out there every five days and getting quality starts. It's like the Yankees don't trust him yet.

I also don't think players that aren't in the big leagues currently (Bruce, Price, Bailey, etc) have a realistic shot. Every day they spend in the minors is another day that someone like Joey Votto or Johnny Cueto add to their big league rookie numbers.

Fukudome has my vote in the NL. I have to study the AL rookies a bit more before deciding where my May vote goes.

that's not exactly true, look at ryan braun last year.you have to put up damn near extraordinary numbers but there's once every couple of years when a guy who plays only 1/2 a season comes up and absolutely rakes and he gets the award.as to fukudome, like i said in a previous post,he hasn't even been the best rookie on his team.soto still leads all catchers in damn near every offensive categorie(sp?).
