Default Matt Morris retires

Quote:
According to Justin Rodriguez of the Times-Herald Record, pitcher Matt Morris has retired. He confirmed it with Rodriguez; Morris has no desire to battle his way back or work out of the bullpen.
Morris finishes with a 3.98 career ERA in 1806 innings, including a respectable 121 wins. Kind of nice that the career ERA didn't get pushed over 4.00. Retired at 33 with $60MM earned...can't say I don't envy him!

Matty Mo had some very good years with the Cardinals in the early 2000s (especially 2001). He was a key member of several playoff teams and I will be grateful for his contribution to those teams. It's too bad the Cardinals couldn't have gotten over the hump in the playoffs and won the World Series before he left town.

Havng said that, the Cardinals probably should have dumped him a year or two before they did, but at least that didn't hang onto him until he was completely worthless.

He probably would of had to battle his way back/work out of the bullpen, so I guess retiring was the right choice.

Like Keyser sad, he had some solid seasons in St. Louis, but eventually fell off of the map.

yea there was no way he'd sign on to be a starter anywhere after this years debacle in pitt.he just seemed to have lost his passion for the game and when that goes your career is done

Are you serious? He was 0-4 with a 9.67 ERA in five starts this year. He doesn't have the talent to get major league hitters out anymore.

Why would you wish that on the Reds?

he stated he doesn't have the passion for the game anymore.he's better off retiring now before he becomes even more of a shell of his former self

He had a few good outings for the S.F. Giants. He wasn't a dominating force, but he was decently solid and helped out a young rotation.

if he still wants to play and has the desire to do w/e he needs to do to get back to where he was even just last year he could be a solid #4 or 5 pitcher.he's just not going to be that frontline #1-2 starter he once was
