Justin Morneau, Twins, broke out of a 1-for-17 funk with a homer and four RBIs in a 6-4 victory over Kansas City. Morneau also scored twice.

Adam Wainwright, Cardinals, allowed two runs in eight hits in a 5-4 victory over the Nationals. He struck out four and walked one in another strong outing by St. Louis starters.

Chase Utley, Phillies, kept up his suddenly torrid pace. After hitting two homers on Friday night, Utley went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in a 4-3 loss to Cincinnati.

Derrek Lee, Cubs, went 4-for-4 with a homer, a double and two RBIs as Chicago outscored the Astros 9-7.

Jonny Gomes, Rays, went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs in a 6-3 victory over the Yankees.

Luke Scott, Orioles, went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to help the Orioles beat Seattle 6-4.
- Erik Bedard will miss his schedule start against his former teammates on Sunday. The Mariners ace won’t pitch against the Baltimore Orioles because of a hip injury he sustained throwing in the outfield before Saturday night’s game.
- Jim Edmonds was activated from the 15-day disabled list and made his first start for the San Diego Padres. Edmonds singled in his first at-bat and scored during the Padres’ four-run first inning.
- The Detroit Tigers dropped to 0-5 with a 5-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox. The Tigers are the only winless team in the major leagues, and are off to their worst start since 2003, when they wound up losing 119 games.
- Mike Jacobs hit his first career grand slam in the fifth inning of the Marlins’ 7-3 win over the Pirates on Saturday night. Jacobs hit a 417-foot drive to right-center off Paul Maholm.
- Atlanta’s Kelly Johnson hit a pinch-hit grand slam off Jorge Sosa into the right-field seats in the seventh inning, and the Braves beat the Mets 11-5.
- Milwaukee second baseman Rickie Weeks failed to score a run, breaking a 17-game streak with at least one run scored dating back to last season. Weeks would have tied a major league record by scoring.
- Dontrelle Willis gave up only one hit, but walked seven in five-plus innings in his debut with the Tigers. Willis took a no-hitter into the sixth.
