Default TheScoreBoards Triple Crown Contest!!!

Last year, we ran a contest in the second half of the MLB season that was very similar to the Beat the Streak contest seen on mlb.com. This year, I want to try something a little different and unique. This year's contest will be based around the Triple Crown award.

Each day you must select three different players. The first player is a player you think will get a hit that particular day. It can be a single, double, triple, or homerun. The second player you select is a player you think will hit a homerun on that specific day. The third player is someone you think will get an RBI that day.

The players you list will have to be in that specific order. For example:

Alex Rodriguez
Albert Pujols
Alfonso Soriano

This implies you predict Alex Rodriguez to get a hit, Pujols to get a homerun, and Soriano to get an RBI. The players selected for each category may only contribute to that one category. So if Alex Rodriguez hits a grand slam on that particular day, he only will contribute towards your hit total, and not the other two categories. Just the same, if Pujols hits a homerun, he won't be contributing towards your hit or RBI total. This is just to keep things simpler for us keeping score.

If a player hits two homeruns, or a player drives in four RBIs, all of them will count towards your total. However, if a player gets three hits, only one hit will count towards your total, as each day you pick is only worth one at-bat. This again is to keep things simpler for us to score.

Now your hit total is not done the same because really you are after batting average. Therefore, if your player gets a hit one day out of the five days you picked, your batting average is .250 (1 of 5) even if he 4-for-4 on that particular day. Now your player might go 1-for-4 each of the five days. While that would amount to a .250 average for him, you are batting 1.000 with that. It sounds trickier than it actually is. The one stipulation regarding batting average is that you must collect at least 40 hits in order for your average to count. This is certainly a reasonable number over the course of a full season, and will prevent anyone from collecting a 1.000 batting average over the course of a week before they quit.

The object of the game is to lead your fellow posters in each category. The person who leads in all three categories, if there is one, wins the Triple Crown.

This game is obviously harder to win overall, but we should eliminate any three way ties like we saw last year. Therefore, the winner of each category will win a TheScoreBoards.com t-shirt (a picture will be posted later). If someone wins the Triple Crown, a $500 gift card to the MLB Team's Online Shop of the winners' choice will be awarded!

Please note that if your post is edited for any reason after the start of the first game any of your players are involved in, it will be disqualified. Likewise, if a post is deleted, we will count it against your batting average total.

Unlike last year where you needed to participate every day to keep your streak alive, this year you are given a little more leeway if you miss a day.

These rules are subject to change and additional rules may be added at any time.

Additional Rule: Unlike last year where you were allowed to select players up to a week in advance in case you were going out of town, this time you will only be able to select one day in advance, and must post the pick yourself. This is in order to continue to have you participate on the board as well as to keep things simple enough for us to keep score.

Note: Previous selections are not being deleted, they are simply being archived elsewhere on the site, so that this thread remains less cluttered. Post counts won't be affected.

If you have any questions concerning this, just post and I will answer them as I can.

  1. RangerFan09 (.909)
  2. DyEaBoLiKaL (.850)
  3. encmetalhead (.765)
Hits:
  1. DyEaBoLiKaL (17)
  2. kfkorn (15)
  3. encmetalhead (13)
Homeruns:

Please note that hits are not a stat you need to lead in, but I think it is worth mentioning who is leading as it will greatly affect batting average in the long run.
