INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Miami Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas has agreed to a one-year, $3 million contract with the Cowboys. The seven-time Pro Bowler, who was released by the Dolphins on Feb. 14, met with Cowboys officials Friday night and agreed to terms Saturday.Thomas, 34, had visited New England and New Orleans and had also received interest from the Texans. But his ties to Texas were too strong. He was the 154th player chosen in the 1996 draft out of Texas Tech.Thomas missed most of last season with concussions and migraines and was played on injured reserve in December. But he has said he is healthy and ready to resume his career in 2008.Click here for full article from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. |

Zach Thomas to Dallas
By Roy Philpott TheRanchReport.com Posted Feb 23, 2008 The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a deal with free agent linebacker Zach Thomas. Thomas, a seven-time Pro Bowler with the Miami Dolphins was released last week and had already received to two offers, one from New Orleans and the other from New England. He received his third offer within the last 24 hours from the Cowboys after meeting with owner Jerry Jones in Indianapolis and agreed to a deal. Terms of that deal are not yet known. Thomas played his college football at Texas Tech and has reportedly wanted to return to his home state of Texas. Cowboys coach Wade Phillips is a Zach Thomas fan from way back. Thomas, who many consider to be an undersized, overachieving force with the Dolphins will be an intriguing fit into the Cowboys' 3-4 scheme. In San Diego, Phillips used the undersized Donnie Edwards very effectively at inside linebacker, a role that Thomas will likely bplay with the Cowboys. However, keep in mind Thomas' 2007 season was prematurely ended by a concussion. Will he hold up through and entire 16-game regular season schedule in the rough and rugged NFC East? Time will only tell. The one thing we do know is the 12-year veteran says he is healthy and ready to go -- a fact confirmed by the decisions of three teams to move in with contracts. ------------------------------- per DMN, it's a one year, $3 million deal. great pickup - this is exactly the kind of leadership that dallas needs. now if we can only get a SS that can cover. ![]()

i wonder if this means the end of ayodele's days in dallas? i've always thought he was more of a parcells guy and is more suited for the 4-3 anyway.
i think this signing gives dallas a bit more leverage in either trading up in the draft or trading for a veteran DB. the buzz is that they are trying to trade for atlanta's deangelo hall - i'm all for that as long as they don't overpay for him.

Where have you heard that, Alex? Everything I've read has only mentioned that the Giants are close to getting him for a 1st round pick.
I'd have no problem giving up a first to get him, but I just haven't specifically heard the Cowboys name mentioned anywhere. As far as Ayodele, I think he'll still be around unless someone offers a strong deal for him. Thomas is a risk with his concussion problem. I like him as depth and potentially even the starter, but at this point in his career I don't trade solid guys to make room for him.
