Default Cowboys place fanchise tag on Ken Hamlin

Quote:
An NFL source said the Dallas Cowboys have used the franchise tag on potential free agent safety Ken Hamlin.

This does not mean the Cowboys won't eventually come to a long-term deam with Hamlin before the season begins. They did not, however, want to risk losing him in free agency.

Hamlin, 27, is coming off a Pro Bowl season. He signed a one-year contract last off-season with the Cowboys, and it's obviously going to pay off in a major way.

The franchise tag on Hamlin is a one-year deal worth about $4.4 million. This is the first time the Cowboys have used the franchise tag since 2002, when they applied it to left tackle Flozell Adams.

I hope this just proves to be a stall tactic and the Cowboys end up getting Hammy locked up full time.

Whatever it is, as long as he is a Cowboy for at least the next few years is all I really care about. They lose him our special teams goes down big time.
