Default Garrett is staying with the Cowboys!

Quote:
ESPN.com reports that the Ravens have offered Dallas offensive coordinator Jason Garrett their head coaching job.
Some local reports in Baltimore says Garrett has been hired, but ESPN reports that no decision has been made by Garrett yet. It's possible that Jerry Jones will now try to sweeten Garrett's deal in Dallas, although it will be hard to keep him there. The Ravens offense could certainly use a fresh offensive approach.

My guess is that unless we hear that Wade is going to get the axe sometime today or that Garrett is willing to stay on as the Dallas OC right now for record money that we've lost our offensive guru.

Cam Cameron...come on down.

I would hate to loose Jason, but if we did, Cameron maybe a good fit.

Yeah, I'm not eager to lose Jason either, but it's looking more and more like a certainty.

I actually like Wade Phillips and I think he's exactly the kind of coach that we need here. Yes, he's laid back - but that seem to work with T.O. and Romo is a more laid back guy so while I think this early exit from the playoffs will help them get more focused for next year I just don't think the axe should fall on Wade - even if it means losing Phillips.

A Wade Phillips/Cam Cameron combo wasn't too bad in San Diego so maybe it'd work here too.

Interesting...this is the first blurn that I've seen that specifically mentions two things that might make this work out. 1) Jerry is willing to match any offer. 2) Garrett might be willing to stay on as the OC.

Quote:
ESPN.com reports that while the Ravens have offered Jason Garrett their head coaching job, there is only a "60-40" chance he will accept.
ESPN.com cites a source that says Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has told Garrett he would match any offer that the Ravens make. Jones views Garrett as the potential next head coach of the Cowboys, but continues to say he will not fire Wade Phillips in order to keep Garrett in Dallas. Garrett is currently scheduled to meet with the Falcons later today. Jan. 15 - 2:05 pm et Source: espn.com

Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has turned down the Ravens' head coaching offer and will stay with Dallas in 2008.
Garrett was likely using the Ravens and Falcons, who also offered him their head coaching job, all along as leverage to get more money from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. It's very possible Garrett will make more money than head coach Wade Phillips in 2008, and take on the title of assistant head coach. Jones likely also promised Garrett that he'll eventually succeed Phillips. Garrett's return is good news for all Cowboys skill players. Jan. 17 - 10:46 am et

glad to hear garrett is staying with the boys. barring a superbowl win next year with wade as coach, (i wonder what the vegas odds are on this?) heheh.. garrett will be the head coach in 2009.

matter of fact, i wouldn't be too surprised if jerry fires wade this year. imo, wade just doesn't do a good enough job of preparing his teams for the playoffs. given, jacque reeves is not a true starting CB and roy williams couldn't cover my grandma even if his life depended on it... but the entire team just had way too many costly penalties throughout the season which wade never corrected.

hopefully garrett will bring a bit more discipline and focus on execution.

Actually, I doubt he is. Wade doesn't strike me as the type to really care about that kind of stuff.

I'm sure JJ is going to compensate Wade in some manner. He always takes care of his guys.
