As you all know the season is sadly over, but one thing to be excited about is the NFL Draft. We have 2 first round picks No.22(from Clev) and No.29. So there is plenty to talk about.
I think our biggest needs our:

Trade rumors swirling about Carpenter, Spears 12:59 PM Tue, Jan 22, 2008 | Permalink Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips Rumor has it that the Cowboys are shopping former first-round picks DE Marcus Spears and LB Bobby Carpenter at the Senior Bowl. Carpenter simply isn't a fit in a 3-4 defense, which makes Bill Parcells' decision to pick him pretty puzzling. Carpenter couldn't get on the field in any of the Cowboys' defensive packages this season but was a solid special teams player. He wasn't considered a reach when the Cowboys drafted him 19th overall two years ago, so some 4-3 teams might be interested. Spears isn't a bad player, but he hasn't lived up to his first-round billing. To use a Tuna term, he's J.A.G. If the Cowboys get rid of Spears, Jay Ratliff could take his job, with Jason Ferguson and Tank Johnson forming a good NT tandem. Time to give Jerry some advice: What would you want for Spears or Carpenter? I'm not sure the return for either would be more than a second-day pick, so try to be realistic.

Ask PFW: Arizona here we come!
What two or three quality players that are unrestricted free agents do you Andy, Tom and Paul think take a reduction in salary to play in NE? Mark L One player to keep an eye is Cowboys OLB Greg Ellis. Following Dallas’ loss to the Giants, Ellis basically said he didn’t want to be a Cowboy anymore, suggesting Anthony Spencer should start next year in his place. I also had a source down in Big D tell me that Ellis wants to go to a Super Bowl contender and mentioned the Patriots as a team he would like to play for. Ellis would be a logical Belichick addition, a hungry veteran who will take less money to come to New England because he wants to win a Super Bowl. Not to mention that Ellis can still play and would really help the team at outside linebacker. Watch out for Ellis this offseason because he doesn’t want to play for the Cowboys anymore. That I know for certain. -Tom Casale

just throwing it out there to start up some discussion around here.
i'm sure a good portion of the FAs out there this year, specifically the aging ones w/o a ring are thinking of going to NE for less money just so they can win a championship before hanging it up. the caveat, of course, is whether or not NE would be interested in them. ellis has long burned his bridge with the cowboys, and laurinaitis is staying in school. it's possible imho.

I read the article (which I can't seem to find) that this guy is quoted and in no way did it indicate that Greg no longer wants to be a Cowboy.
He was stating that the team has invested a lot of money in Anthony Spencer and at this point in his career he doesn't want to be a bench or platoon player.

The Cowboys "have every intention" of retaining free agent Ken Hamlin, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The franchise number for safeties is reasonable, so if the sides can't reach a long-term deal, there are other options. Hamlin enjoyed a career best year in 2007. If the Cowboys don't step up, he'd surely have a home in Miami. Source: Dallas Morning News |

The Cowboys informed the agent for Marcus Spears that they are not shopping the fourth-year defensive end.
Rumors swirled at the Senior Bowl that Spears and LB Bobby Carpenter were on the block. Spears is cheaply under contract through 2010, so Dallas will give him at least another year to show he can make a difference. Source: Dallas Morning News |
