Let's dive right in to the latest rumors coming out of the MLB: Ken Griffey Jr. Seattle Mariners president Chuck Armstrong certainly created a firestorm of media attention when he spoke about Griffey Jr. earlier this week: "I think everyone in Seattle would like to see him retire in a Mariners uniform. He was born a Mariner and I'd like to see him finish up as a Mariner." However, on Wednesday, the ballclub denied through media-relations director Tim Hevly that they have any imminent plans to add the future Hall-of-Famer. Hevly said they Armstrong was merely being sentimental. Jacque Jones Jones was released by the Detroit Tigers on Monday and is drawing interest from around the league. Both the Florida Marlins and San Diego Padres have had difficulty getting production out of center field. Jones is certainly sparking interest from within these organizations. David Wells While the struggles the Yankees have been working through in their rotation is common knowledge, not everyone knows that the soon-to-be 45-year-old Wells is lobbying himself for the job. It's not often that a pitcher can still be in the big leagues 10 years after pitching a perfect game, but David Wells may just have that chance. Next Saturday is the 10-year anniversary of his perfect game against the Twins. Wells said that he hopes the gift he receives is a new Yankees contract.

I could see Griffey returning to Seattle. Didn't he say something about returning home last year when the Reds had their interleague series with the Mariners?
Re: Jones...I could see San Diego being in more of a panic mode after dumping Edmonds and signing someone like Jones and hoping a change of scenery is all that's needed to turn him around. |

I could very well see Griff going back to Seattle. He is still a productive player, though not at the level he once was. I just do not think that he fits in the Reds plans, and his age and contract do not help his chances of staying in Cincy...

i say seattle is a perfect destination for griffey.the problem with a trade is what will cinci want in return.if they ask for a top prospect like balentien or jeff clement they're going to laughed at.
jones and the pads also seem like a very good fit.the problem there becomes is san diego clearing the roster space to get their top prospect, chase headley,at bats or are they shopping for an OFer David Wells back to the yankees makes no sense to me.they're better off sticking with rasner, kennedy and/or igawa as their 4 and 5 until hughes comes back.i wouldnt be surprised to see them trade either kennedy or hughes for a good pitcher in the next few weeks
