Default A's still interested in Coco

Quote:
The A's still like Coco Crisp, but the Red Sox want young catching and/or pitching that the A's would prefer to keep. Susan Slusser wrote on Saturday that talks between the two clubs had revived.

I'd like to see the Angels trade GMJ there but I doubt the A's make a trade with the Angels.

yea it's doubtful
1)i don't think they'd trade inside the division
2)the angels would have to eat a good portion of GMJ's contract

I wonder why the Twins wouldn't be interested in Crisp? They still don't really have a Major League ready CF (I just don't think Gomez is ready) and Crisp is a great defensive fielder...which the Twinkies love.

Twins probably aren't willing to give up anything of significance, and I doubt the BoSox are willing to just give him away.

Outside chance the Rays are willing to give up what the BoSox are looking for, and with Rocco Baldelli's suddenly shaky status as a major leaguer (and having moved their outfielder depth, a la Delmon Young, for pitching), Crisp could be a decent temporary fill in....

The Twins picked up a dime-a-dozen outfielder for the best pitcher in baseball... They had better hope he pans out, or they're looking at a media nightmare. They don't really have a choice in center, Gomez has to play.

I too would expect Carlos Gomez to be starting for the Twins this season. He basically was the centerpiece (and Torii Hunter's replacement) in the Johan Santana deal.

I can see a few teams being interested in Coco Crisp. I know the Mets were rumored to be interested with Moises Alou injured, but those rumors were shot down. I do not think the Mets are willing to give up anything significant for an outfielder (they do have Angel Pagan/Endy Chavez/Damion Easley who can fill in till Alou is back) and I do not see the Red Sox giving Crisp away.

The Red Sox seem inclined to keep Coco Crisp unless they're blown away with an offer. Jayson Stark noted last week that the Sox don't want to eat any of the $11MM owed to him.

A real shame if the Santana trade blows up in the face of the Twins, considering how they treated the situation with the highest bidders Red Sox and Yankees.

I think it would be a good move by the Red Sox to keep a hold of Crisp until at least the trade deadline. You never know if you might need that player down the line.

IMO, the Twins already failed. You can't trade the consensus best pitcher in baseball and not get either of the other team's best hitting or pitching prospects and consider it a successful trade. I'm still baffled that the Twins didn't also get back Fernando Martinez, at least....

Boston probably wants to be rid of Crisp, but they realize that if they show they want to move him, they won't get any decent deals for him. Problem is, he's overpaid for what he brings to the table, and since they don't want to eat any of his contract, they're not going to get any offer more than some random PTBNL and cash considerations.
