Default Joe Crede Rumors - and more!

Just a few quite rumors here. I hate to spend the time writing a whole article about these, so I will just "blurb" about them.

Joe Crede
The Giants are reportedly interested in White Sox third baseman Joe Crede. According to the San Jose Mercury News, Aaron Roward was approached by Giants management and was asked for a character reference regarding Joe Crede. Roward was formerly a teammate of Crede's and admits that he is biased.

With Josh Fields coming back for the 'Sox, they might just consider Crede for a trade.

Ryan Zimmerman
Sides are reportedly not close to reaching an extension. National's GM Jim Bowden is frustrated. He is quoted,

"If Ryan is willing to sign a contract that is similar to what all the other good young players are signing for ... if he's willing to do a 'market signing,' we are prepared to do that with him," Bowden said. "We're not going set all new markets with him. We're not going to change the pay scale of Major League Baseball for one player."

Apparently, Zimmerman wants to set new standards for players of his caliber. But the question remains, is Zimmerman worth it? He did finish second in the NL Rookie of the Year last year...

David Wells
Wells' agent reportedly didn't receive a good welcome when he visited St. Louis inquiring about his client. St. Louis is aiming to have their pitching staff filled with young arms this year, and 44 year-old didn't make the cut.

I heard about the Crede rumor, and I think he'd be a great fit in SF. Joe is one of those guys that would fit in with any team though. He's a great team player and has one of the most underrated gloves in the league.

The Giants do need some offense, and Pedro Gomez did say on ESPNEWS yesterday that the Giants were looking to add a bat or two before Opening Day. So, them going after Joe Crede makes sense.

As for Ryan Zimmerman, I cannot blame Jim Bowden for not wanting to set new standards when it comes to re-signing him. I do think though that Zimmerman is a player the Nationals need to keep around and build around.

The Giants asked for character references for Crede?!? LOL. Weren't they the team that employed Barry Bonds? I wonder who it was that said Bonds was a great guy..?

I saw something (I think on rotoworld) that said that the Giants and Chisox had pretty much agreed on a trade and were just waiting for the Sox to pick from a list of players. Unless this list of players is just Giants out of options (to be sent to the minors) I don't see anything holding this back unless the Giants want to see Crede in action.

BTW...I have Crede in a fantasy league. So I'm hoping for a return to form.

I think the Giants are waiting to make sure Crede is healthy at least that was what I gathered a few weeks back.

I am a big Angels fan and I am so glad the Angels didn't trade for Crede last spring. If I remember correctly, the Angels were offering different packages of players. One package was Kotchman and Figgins for Crede. Another one was either Saunder/Santana and Figgins for Crede and the third package was Kotchman, Saunders and Figgins for Crede and another player (I think a first baseman). Crede was hurt most of last year and he reminds me too much of Glaus and how after he started to go on the DL 2 or 3 times a year because of his bad back. Figgins ended up being so important to the Angels division title since they (the angels) had so many injuries.

the giants are the 1 team i've heard repeatedly throughout the offseason that actually makes sense.i believe crede is a FA at the end of the season and that could be what's holding this deal up

This morning we have reports that the Giants have recently scouted Joe Crede and Brandon Inge. Even without a decent third baseman in the house, I don't really see the point of acquiring either guy.
On Sunday, the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo noted that the Giants could be less likely to acquire Crede given the Noah Lowry injury. Then on Monday, Kenny Williams mentioned that the two teams he'd discussed Crede with hadn't impressed with their offers. Williams suggested Crede could be his Opening Day third baseman, despite Josh Fields' worthiness.
Inge is the other veteran third base option for teams like the Giants and Dodgers. But Inge bears almost four times the salary commitment, so the Tigers would have to eat some of it. Or, as one MLBTR reader suggested to me, perhaps the Tigers would take on one of the Giants' many bad contracts in return.

Giants better not trade lowry for crede. i was thinking more like a prospect or 2 given his injury situation and the fact the the white sox need to clear space for fields

lowry has gotten roughed up so far in ST so his value is considerably down right now.they'd be better suited to hold on to him until the trade deadline
